Have a super happy birthday, Mr.Punk.

The Big 30 isn't so bad. It's just that your young adult years have officially come to an end and now you are an adult whereas before you were a young adult probably going wild in your roaring twenties.

Those pains you used to get in the back and knees are not going to go away like before, you'll have to make sure you start watching your health because of how brutal you were to your body in the young adult years.

That's because your memory was over half gone by that age.
  • Happy Birthday Paul!

My 30th is coming up this October - keep me posted so I know what to look forward to. I'm really trying to be optimistic...

By the way, I heard adult diapers are actually kinda convenient! And, when people call at 9 p.m. they'll ask, "Did I wake you?"

Cool. Happy birthday! My 30th was yesterday. The 3 in the tens place does seem a little strange when used in conjunction with my age, but I can't say I feel all that different. "I still feel like a kid," I told my wife, who, of course, responded, "You still act like one, too."

  • Yawie,

My birthday was also yesterday. I turned 35 and it was quickly pointed out by a co-worker, I'm now closer to 50 than I am 20. Oh well.

In the immortal words of Peter Gammons, you're only young once but you can always be immature.

    Hey Paul,

I was just sitting here writing out those 2 checks to you for the 66's and I see it's your Birthday.... Happy Birthday!!

I know I said I was going to mail the checks a couple of days ago... but you'll have to excuse me ... I'm old and half senile already.... and I forget to do things.

I tell you what... I'll slip in a couple of those minty hockey cards I was telling you about as a Birthday present.

Enjoy your B-Day and don't think of it as getting old.... think of it as getting closer to being Vintage.

  • Thanks for all the Happy Birthdays guys! It was a great day, i don't feel any older and i got some cool stuff. But i told you all i was getting old and i must be loosing my mind becouse i thought i had saved five 1972 Hockey packs to open but when i dug them out i only had four left and i busted them all. Below is a couple scans of the aftermath, i think i did very well with these packs becouse out of the 40 cards i got 31 that look like PSA 8's or higher and im very picky with the cards i submit (the other nine were downgraded by centering or gum stains).

    I pulled the following:

#5 Playoffs Game #4 -Bad gum stain
(2)#7 Playoffs Game #6 - one looks Mint and the other has a bad gum stain
    #14 Walter Tkaczuk
    #19 Andre Dupont - off center 80-20
    (2) #21 Bob Berry - one is off center 80-20
    #22 Craig Camron
    #29 Wayne Cashman
    #50 Jean Ratelle
    #51 Rogatien Vachon
    #52 Phil Roberto
    #58 Lew Morrison
    #60 John Bucyk - LOOKS GEM MINT~FLAWLESS!
(2)#63 NHL Scoring Leaders (Esposito, Orr and Ratelle)
    #68 Jim Lorentz
    #81 Gary Doak
    #84 Tracy Pratt
#91 Dunc Wilson -off center 85-15
    #104 Cesare Maniago
    #106 Don Luce
    #111 Arnie Brown
    #115 Bill Goldsworth
#116 Bryan Watson -off center 85-15
    #117 Dave Balon
    #118 Bill Mikkelson
    #122 Bobby Orr All-Star
    #127 Ken Dryden All-Star
    #136 Barclay Plager
    (2)#138 Ron Harris
#139 Bill Flett - Bad gum stain
    #151 Jude Drouin
    #160 Ken Dryden
    #161 Rene Robert
(2)#170 Art Ross Trophy -one looks mint and the other is off center 90-10
(2)171 Hart Memorial Trophy -one looks mint and the other has a bad gum stain

  • Paul,
A belated happy birthday. I think it is time however that you consider a moniker change. May I suggest "SuperMiddleAgedMan13". I don't think it is taken.
I would also suggest that you are using the wrong tests for age. May I suggest:
If your age is larger than your waist size ........ then you might be an old man.
If you have more hair in you ears than on your head......... then you might be an old man.
If you meet the new young woman bank teller, and she reminds you of your daughter ..... then you might an old man.
    Drum roll please ...................
If you remember when a pack of cards cost less than a gallon of gas ......... then you might be an old man.
Happy Birthday and looks like some pretty nice cards too.

Fuzz - a pack of cards cost less than a gallon of gas just a few years ago. And if you buy Topps, it still does. image

Apu - perhaps you should take some time away from the computer and clean.

  • OK Nick, You may have me on that one. I have no idea. The last year that I bought anything new in packs was '89 which I guess makes me not only old but an old timer. I was going off my sons YuGiOh cards which certainly are pricey. I figured cards had gone the same way.

Fuzz - it depends on what packs. Topps, Topps Total, Fleer Tradition, Upper Deck Victory, and a couple others are under $1.50 currently, and until about 2000 or 2001, so were Score, Upper Deck MVP, and some other brands that have now exceeded that price.

  • Nick,
Thanks for the update. I just eventually gave up on the new stuff becuase I couldn't keep track of it all, couldn't collect it all, and couldn't even find it all.
Am at a great disadvantage here as I have not found much in my area as far as card shops go. I found that the area here (metro Phoenix) is so new that no one brought any old cards with them and the few shops that are here now are small with limited inventory. No one was here when the cards were new so it is a real challenge to find much locally. Newer issues are a complete mystery to me except for the fact that when I pick up a Beckett, everything I collect is in a couple of pages and then there is this large book that follows with the newer stuff. I find it simply amazing.
