Intresting observation about reholdered coins

I just got notification back from PCGS that my invoice #9015779 has been "graded." All the cert numbers are the "old" ones. Anybody know if they're going to come back with the same slab numbers?

If you sent your coins in for reholdering they will keep the old numbers.

If the coin is reholdered, the cert. # does not change.

edited this part:/i] If the coin is regraded, the cert. # changes even if the grade is the same.

For a designation review, and the cert.# stays the same regardless if the designation is given or not. If the designation is given, the coin is reholdered, else it says in the original holder.

edited also to delete a somewhat redundant portion/i]

  • I sent a coin to upgrade and it backs, one week ago, in the same grade, in new holder with new certificated number.

I sent a pcgs slabbed coin in to have a fingerprint removed and included it in the same package with the 4 "freebies" I got for joining CU. It came back with a SN next in line with the 4, in other words they changed it.

I have had it go both ways with designation reviews (a new cert number and no change, but the designation was added). Re-holders always had the same number.

sent a coin to upgrade and it backs, one week ago, in the same grade, in new holder with new certificated number I went back and checked my last batch of regrades, and agree with you- the gave new cert. #s even for those that stayed at the same grade.

    I'll correct my first post.
