I had several closeups sent and i can pretty much say for sure it's ms. I have advised Kerry that if he/she bought the set, they have been taken and that it should be ended. I was curious because i want to buy a primo example.

I hate to act like one of those Ebay Gestapo type guys that's on everything like stink on $%#@ but I actually was considering bidding on it until i got the closeups sent to me. i can see chatter in the fields like a typical mint state coin has and believe me i have starred at many of them .

do you think the seller truly believes it to be a NO S proof???

    I wouldn't think so myself.

That is not even a shinny ms coin, well I guess a lot of people do not know a ms coin from a pr coin.

I just looked at who the seller is, that is kind of strange, I have brought and sold to Kerry a few times and never have any problem, I know he has a lot of coins and a long time collector and he should know the difference between a ms and pr coin. That is strange but the coin does look like a ms coin.

Great call datentype ms all the way. Has anyone tried to contact the seller he may not know. His description does say purchased in Mexico, the same place the fake gold Liberdad coins came from.

I ask Kerry Ruth to send me a close up and memtion that his picture looks like a ms coin. He is in Houston, I wander how he got these coins from New Mexico?

how can you guys be so positive it is not a crappy proof? a proof 65 or lower could look like a MS through the mint plastic couldn't it? Lighting angles also could make it look different -
  • mozeppamozeppa Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭
nope .....its a ms alright !

    i emailed him too.

in reply to above....even a proof 65 could look ms.

not likely in 1990...the proof dies were chrome plated ...making even some of the worst proofs still look far better than the best mint state coins.

Kerry is currently seeking advise from a coin group, if it turn out to be a ms coin, I am sure he will pull the auction, lets give him a chance to figure it out before e-mailing everyone, that would affect his other auctions also. The auction does not end for many days anyway.

  • If it's so obivious that the no S is a problem, why would the Seller wait until he got inquiries to check out the authenticity. Doesn't look like a brand new collector to me. Lucky someone is watching this seller, if a fake and we did not question, there would be one buyer sitting with a $40 Prestige Set and a $3,000 hole in his checkbook. IMO, this person was irresponsible, either way, whether real or fake. All he saw was $$$$$$$.

Assuming that the idea is not to harm anybody and just alert the potential buyer for, eventually, clarify the subject with the seller, I sent by e-mail a recommendation to top bidder access this page. He decides what will do.

  • Hello - I am brand new to the forum but was introduced to it in this particular thread.
I concur that a bidder should have as much information as possible - even if is is not
all provided by the seller. The bidder then can make a decision.
I have looked at the pics for this auctions on several monitors and on the monitor in my home
one sees a darker image that is more proof-like than the others. Bottom line, more information is needed.

Thank all of you for this thread!

I have Ebay's fraud department looking into it. Let me just say that the only reason i'm into this, is that I was taken once on a $1,000 coin and i wished that people in the know would have helped me out. Once the deal is done you cannot get your $ back, trust me.

One cannot interfere with the auction by emailing bidders and asking them to retract and yes people should know what they are buying and ask the right questions. i'm not saying it's the Seller's fault as they Kerry28 may not know it is fake. i do think it's the Seller's responsibility to end the auction and take the set back to where they got it.

When i was ripped off personally, i got the US Secret Service invloved and they interviewed the Seller and he claimed he bought it from someone else, and then that person changed business addresses making it hard to prove who was the crook. if this deal does not go down, then there is no further harm to be done in my opinion.

What will e-bay's fraud department do? There is really no fraud here. it's an auction and 7 people are being duped into bidding on a coin that is half the price it should be worth. Should that give someone a clue????? One would think someone with $2500 to spend on one coin would have a few smarts.

I find e-bay to be the most unresponsive outift out there, even as a power seller.

I saw a power seller that had a feedback rating of 96 still using the logo of powerseller. I sent e-bay a note stating that this seller made other ppowerseller look bad. I also asked them why this seller was allowed to continue being a powerseller when they clearly did not mee the criteria. Guse what.......no response!

Since part of fraud is intent, that might be correct in the case of this seller. He very well may have been duped himself. However, there certainly is fraud somewhere in the chain of custody of the set. The cent didn't get substituted by accident.

Relayer and TWOG, don't even get me started. The only Roger I currently know on the boards is "Rella" Roger, there are no others that I am aware of but i bet we are being watched and measured by an old one.
  • SteveSteve Posts: 3,312 ✭✭✭
Roger, one last time for me. There are a number of people here, particularly dealers, who are upset with your actions. I, personally am offended with the fact that you chose to use other "names" rather than to stick with "redcents". I see that you are still "active" under that name on this forum. Why do you need to now use "BigJack"? If you chose to participate here, you should at least have the courage of your convictions to stand up under the name you established months ago. In my opinion, your "coin business" will suffer because of your actions here during the post month. I've got no reason to care either way because I have never bought from you. I am just a Lincoln cent collector who enjoyed and appreciated MOST of what you had to say on these boards. You really need to come out of the closet and apologize soon to the people here or your future crediblity will be zero, IMHO. Steveimage

I emailed the seller a few days ago and he stated that it was verified by a local dealer and that he was going to be showing it to another dealer this weekend. I also emailed the ebay fraud department two days ago, but it's still there. I think if enough people emailed the seller he might pull it.

  • "You really need to come out of the closet and apologize soon to the people here or your future crediblity will be zero"

    Steve,

Are you referring to that pepper guy? He did make an "open apology to board members..." but the thread was pulled because it ALSO had the 100% corroboration of Gary Shaffstall of all redcents had asserted. Unfortunately the powers that be didn't think that the REAL truth was pertinent to the whole debate. In fact, there is a message board rule that states that if someone threatens physical violence they will be permanantly banned from the message boards but even though Mark threatened to "kick redcents' ass" or something to that effect, he never got banned. & Even though everything redcents said was corroborated by Gary Shaffstall here on these boards, some people that responded to the poll about whether or not they thought Mark was lying about the other user ID's & the shill bidding still voted that they thought that he wasn't. Mark has yet to admit or apologize for initially "catagorically denying" that "old-mint-collectibles" was his alternate eBay user ID (as well as all it's predecessors) or for using those ID's to shill bid datentypes auctions.

In fact, Mark went crying on the open forum threatening to sue CU if they didn't pull all redcents' & JimFromNY's threads. Some people will do anything to prevent the truth from being known even if it means allowing someone else's reputation & credibility to be destroyed. A real man would just simply admit to it all instead of trying to get you all to think there is some type of sinister conspiracy beteween redcents & Gary Shaffstall to destroy Mark's reputation or that Gary Shaffstall used redcents as an unwitting pawn in his grand schemes to get Mark "put out of business"

  • Well the bidding continues, currently at nearly $3k. I received some additonal pics from Kerry that are still dark and not easy to decipher. This is one I will sit out and watch the outcome. I also don't see this as a bargain anymore - even if it is real and grades PR65.

That coin is 100%, for sure a Business Strike coin. Absolutely no doubt whatsoever in my mind. I would bet a million bucks, if I had it. Even if you took a real proof coin and scratched the heck out of it (and anything else you could think of), it would not look a thing like the one in the auction.

  • What's missing is the fact that Mark DiLauro of datentype is a shill bidding liar that used multiple eBay user ID's (old-mint-collectibles & all it's predecessors) to bid on his own eBay auctions & then "categoriccally denied" ever doing so on these boards. He lied to ALL board members. All his cronies are too morally bankrupt to admit that redcents is telling the truth about it. Even the competition of his that knows he was doing these things are too afraid to speak the truth because they fear monetary retaliation from his supporters & from those that don't know or believe the truth.

This can go on as long as you guys want & won't stop until Mark admits the truth. I've got NOTHING to lose and will not stop until Mark admits the truth or enough people that know the truth also speak out. Gary Shaffstall has already corroborated everything I've said. Flame me all you want, insult me all you want, in fact it must be cathartic for you. You're all real big men with the action icons you've created. Let's see some real courage form you spineless wimps & see who has the balls to tell the truth & the consequences be damned.
