What does it take for a variety to be recognized?

Good evening David:

What does it take for a coin variety like 1972 Ikes or 1960 sm/lg date to become recognized?

Thanks

Frank

    Hi Frank,

We just started recognizing the 1972 Ikes. I believe we also recognize the 1960 small/large date cent.

Here are the general requirements for a new variety to be recognized.

    1. We prefer that the vaariety be in the Redbook. This is just a preference, not a requirement.

    2. We will only recognize significany varieties that you can actually see. We don't not like to recognize "imagination" varieties, i.e. minor, minor varieties that take high power magnification to even see, overdates that may or may not actually be overdates, etc.

    3. We recognize varieties that the majority of Set Registry participants in a series want to be recognized. On close calls we will actually poll the Set Registry participants.
