Gold Tops $400 !!!

After flirting with $400 , gold finally reached that magic number.
Will it have any effect on gold coins ?
Will it keep rising ? or drop back below $400 ?

Will you sell any gold now ?
Will the $400 mark stop you from buying ?

I check a few web site that deal with gold as an investment and yes, their prices have reflected the change

One of two things will happen assuming there isn't a dip back below $400. One, buyers will start overpaying for collectable gold coins just like they were willing to buy stocks when they were priced high. The euphoria of seeing gold go up in price has the effect of blinding buyers to the logic of buyng low and selling high. Alternatively, sellers will so overprice their collectable gold coins that prices will be up but sales will be down. I have already seen the latter happening and in time the market will adjust as sellers have to bring their prices back down to levels that buyers will accept. Now if gold rockets way past $400 then both of the above will just be pushed to their extremes.

The above addresses collectable gold coins where the pricing is over and above what would be justified by simply the increased value of the gold itself.
As far as "gold as an investment" per se for bullion gold coins one can expect little dips along the way to increased prices which have the effect of wiping out the speculators who are buying futures or options. This is the problem with the wealth projections that suggest if you had bought options or future contracts based on expected increases that you would become a millionaire. Highly leveraged contracts just don't survive those little blips along the way.

The question for me now is when to sell all my gold coins!!! I can make some real money on a few I bought 3 years ago! Won't make as much money on more recent pieces, though.
