1972d Kennedy. Help needed for grading!

I see this as a nice clean coin with few marks. The luster, while not apparent in the picture, is there. There is a die crack on the reverse from the left wing tip to the "H" in Half. Any opinions on a grade? All opinions are greatly appreciated!!!....Ken

65, shield and neck look good. If really lustrous, I could maybe see 66. Better struck than many 72d halves that I have seen.

I'd go MS64 if the luster is all there. Quite a few hits in the cheek and neck area, and the strike is pretty weak. The image indicates that the surfaces are very PL. Is that the case in-hand?

You think that one is well struck? The reverse is strong enough, but the obverse is awfully lacking in detail.

Russ, you're right. i was focusing on the rev. Most of the 72ds I've seen have super weak reverses with a blob under the eagle head towards the bottom of the shield. Wasn't looking too carefully at the obv. Still, I think the luster could carry it to 65. Probably not 66 now that you mention it.

Cool! I saw one at a show recently that also made me do a double-take looking for the mintmark. Might be a candidate for submission to NGC.

72-D comes pretty nice, but the P is extremely tough. Based on the pic, I'd figure 64-65, and assume the PL surface would put it in a 5 holder.
