Who is ... ?

With the recent queries here about who is who on ebay, I thought I'd start a thread about these enigmatic collectors.

I'm going to give it a little bit of a set registry twist, though. My intention is to get someone that knows these individuals to contact them and hopefully they will become members of the message boards. I believe a lot of collectors of PSA graded cards still are unaware of the message boards (I know I was for almost 1 year). I'm not asking anyone to post names, ebay ID's, etc.

Here's one of mine:

Over the past couple of years I have noticed the "Michael Disfarmer's ... Pirates" sets in many of the sets that I look at. Does anyone know this person? I would like to hear some of his insight on several sets. Kellogg's Kollectors must be aware of him - he has several near complete sets in high grade.

Let's hear some others and if anyone knows these collectors, please contact them and invite them to participate here.

JEB.

  • I know this one was hot topic awhile back, many rumors were floated but no concrete ansers were known. "Museum of Sports History", would be curious to who this one is. Is a major player in football and buckets. I did come across a couple auction with this ebay id. I may win one to once and for all anser this one. I always though it was KR, but one rumor floated was that he bought some of KR's big time 1/1 mid eightes football giants......................

i think "Michael disfamer..." has posted here
we made a trade this week ..and i just thought that it was him ...if its him ...he seems like a real nice guy.

i always wanted to know who is "1mayer" ...he is a legend of lowball bids ...has even won a few from me in the past ..sad to say ..lol even though he is super fast and very friendly.

i always wondered if he read these boards?

i dont know if he buys to resell ..but if he is a collector he must then have a collection as extensive as davadillo (with more 7's)

anybody knows if he its on the registry?

<< <i> always wanted to know who is "1mayer >>

Its LMayer, Larry Mayer from California. Nice guy I've done a few trades with him, and he has won a bunch of my auctions. Granted at a low price, but if he didn't bid and win them, they would have gone for even less, so his bids are appreciated...jay
  • Well as I don't know everyone here yet, this seller may already be on the boards. His Ebay ID is idratherbedrivingmy1957chevy, he has over 1600 transactions and has 100% positive feedback. I recently purchased two lots of PSA 6, 51 Bowmans from his seemingly endless supply, anyway if he is not on the boards already he may be a great addition..imageimageimage

  • I bump into Larry Mayer's bids all the time when bidding on numerous sets. He typically looks to pick up cards for 60-80% of SMR but will bid a bit higher on low POP cards.
I too was not real sure about his intentions until I found his website. He has an extensive website of PSA cards for sale. Just buying low and selling high I guess.
I dont recall exactly but his sight is something like Larryssportscards.com. He really should use the boards as a way to get the word out. I am sure many members could use much of what he has on sale.

Virtualizard, MDisfarmer is already a board member. He doesn't post often. I've done a large dollar transaction with the guy, and he's top notch.

curious about sdireland , shows up here makes some large purchases on unopened stuff.
another is "esto33" he is back this week buying everything up.

    bosox, crazycanuck?
  • If inventory is your only criteria then I would say OK with CrazyCanuck...Otherwise...I would have to disagree with selection of CrazyCanuck...I am in the process of filing an e-bay and mail fraud complaint for over 700.00 of cards not received. After several tries, CC will still not provide an insurance or tracking number for these cards, and I noticed another feedback from a customer who has not received their cards as well.

It may all be a misunderstanding and I may receive my cards, but I have a not-so-good feeling about this one...will post final results of this transaction.

    grillo,

wow, that's surprising to me. I've made at least 50 different transaction with him over the past three years and he's always been a stand-up guy. He does an incredible volume so I'm wondering if he simply lost the insurance information? To say the least if he lost the information than he needs to stand behind the $700 transaction himself. If you need info on him let me know and I'll see if I still have anyhting in my archives...though it's been a while.

    packcollector,

crazycanuck is a seller only us pre-war hockey guys would be interested in. He seems to come up with a great deal of very rare items. The condition is hit or miss but I've found he does a nice job describing the item, provides high quality scans and has reasonable minimum bids. He doesn't take credit cards but I've found that even when paying by check I have my items within 2 weeks. That's not bad from New Jersey to Vancouver so he must not wait for my check to clear before he ships. That's about all one can ask.

Crazycunuck could post pictures of the new house he is building.
........after all, I think some folks around here helped finance it .

with all the money he has been defrauding people from. >>

    murcer-

Aren't you the guy that told me it's not right to take shots at someone in a public forum? image

So what am I missing here? What has he been doing?

For what it's worth, here is a copy of the EBAY fraud file with both my comments and Jason's comments on a $2700 deal:

    Crazy Canuck

I also have emails from others who have had similar problems.

I will take a shot becasue I have hard evidence, myself along with another sent him 25k for some unopened opc wax, total bill was about 35k and we were going to pay him the rest after receipt. after a song and dance and customs excuses and everything under the sun for 3 months, he bounced 5 checks to the 2 of us, canadian checks take 2-3 weeks to clear , we finally got our money back through a credit card dispute and got lucky, otherwise we would still be dealing with his refunds. biggest headache of my life.image

It was the biggest headache I ever had on EBAY as well. Jason is truth impaired.

discussing the ways and means of someone in a public forum, who might reasonably expect those he has done private dealings with to keep said info. private vs. discussing someone who is actively defrauding persons in this hobby.

    yeah,................... you are right again.

    My bad.

Wow..I did not realize all these people were having problems with him. I remember reading a story in Beckett Hockey on how he acquired all of the UD Cut Sigs (Lord Stanley, etc.).

Alan- you might want to add his name next to Schwartz.
  • I'm certainly glad I'm hearing about this issue. I'll make it a point to stay away from him in the future.

    Thanks all.

  • Alan,

I would think that he should be at the top of your dealers to avoid list. Thanks for the info - I'll definitely avoid him.
