a lucky day

well I got some of the items I won off the Bay in today and was looking at 2 of the sets really close they both looked real nice and cameo but did not look like the other sets I have in those years so I got out my 79 and 81 proof sets and The 79 was a type 2 no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Now the 81 set I have looked at it for about 30 min and the s does look different it also does not match the s on either of the 79 sets the s looks taller then on the other 81 set I have did I really get this lucky Im not sure I have looked at this page http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/1979SAnd1981STypes.htm it really looks like a mix of the 79type 2 and the 81 tye 2 so im not sure. I do no I got the 79 type 2 set that was on my list to find at a great price. So im in a real good mood now

I guess some times you get lucky on the Bay

I did not even know that '79 or '81 proof sets were type I or type II. What coin is the type I/II? The Morgan dollar? I've only seen on 1881 proof set in my life, but it was cool. Are yours with the gold or just copper/nickel/silver? I Would like to get any complete Seated Liberty proof set before I die. Do you have a link to the auction? I've seen Heritage auction proof sets before, but they were out of my league.

tjkillian, the OP is talking about 1979 and 1981 proof sets, where T1 and T2 refer to different styles of the S mintmark.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Ohimage Why do people do that, just saying '79 or '81? When I think of coin collecting, I think 19th century as that is what I collect. Coins are one thing that you really need to put the century on to be clear.

    Sorry.
