Recommended Reading: Bowers Companions
Looking for some education and an interesting read this winter? Pick-up any of Dave Bowers' series of "Companion" books. I have all seven of them and re-read them each every couple of years. The books contain excepts from B&M's Rare Coin Review which I consider the best coin periodical of all time.
I'm currently re-reading "The Numismatist's Topside Companion." Sample articles include stories on: B. Max Mehl, the 1964 Peace Dollar, Carson City coins, 1894-S Dime, NE Sixpence, Minor Coinage of the 1870's, Experiments with aluminum coins, and a couple of dozen other topics. Its close to 200 pages long.
Brooklyn Gallery Coin & Stamps has them for around $10 each. You'd be hard pressed to find a better entertainment value for a numismatist.
Thus endeth the infomercial.
