Coins, moving, and EXTREME cold

Question - I have moved ion the past and am probably one day going to move again and was wondering what effect, if any, extreme cold (40 below or so) has on proof coins? Can it cause hazing? Sice I live in Alaska, just bringing my coins to the PO on some days is enough to chill them up. I'm not worried about UNC coins since their surfaces are pretty forgiving.

Its only 10 below today (!!)

If you go out make sure you have a blowtorch to periodically heat your coins up. What kind of coin wants to freeze its Buttocks off in the cold Alaskan winter?

Naw, I am kidding. I seriously doubt dry cold air will do anything to the proofs. Moisture is something you need to worry about whether cold or hot.

  • If you are worried about moisture building up on your coins when going from cold to hot just put them in ziplock baggies. The baggies condeses leaving the contents dry. Works good for electronics too. image
