Well now the 81's have left the home I've started getting into some other areas. I recently purchased a large quantity of K sets from 79-83. Could someone please tell me what the criteria is on psa's grading habbits of do's and don'ts. Does centering have to be 60-40 to get a 9. Just looking for some advanced help.
Thanks, Gator

Larry you out here!!!
Nuances of the Kellogg's cards are similar to most regular issue cards. Centering, corners, and surface are certainly things that the PSA graders are looking at. Here are a few tips on those years you mentioned...
1979...
Look also for bright card stock. So many of the '79's are dark and blurry. Centering is also an issue with the '79's. Look at the Registry and you'll see lower than expected GPA's.
1980...
An easier year for higher grades.
1981...
Ask any veteran Kellogg's collector, and you'll get the same answer...#21 Winfield is a BEAR!!! Some other tougher cards are Bell, Palmer, and Oliver. Centering is an issue with this year.
1982...
An easier year for high grades.
1983...
Not a lot of history on this year. Paper stock turns dark on more than 1 set that I've looked at. A few new names appear on the checklist...Guerrero, Durham, Hrbeck, Quisenberry, and so on...
All of these years are small sets.....60 - 66.
The most important grading issue on ALL Kellogg's cards are surface scratches and overall eye appeal. Yes, for high grades, you need sharp corners and centered straight edges, but Ohhhh that eye appeal....a perfect 3-D is a sight to behold.
Matt...
With your intence quality control, you should have no problem identifing nice cards. It's just, how far do you want to go with it...???...Some times, buying a sharp "9", already graded, surpasses the effort in grading yourself. I have over 700 Kellogg's cards in PSA 9's, that are dup's ( need a few hundred...ha...)
All in all, I find the Kellogg's sets fun, challanging, and a great format to meet a few of the real crazies in this world we call "Card Collecting"

CHEERS!!
1980 Kellogg's #25 Willie Stargell PSA 10 - 1/1
1978 Kellogg's #29 Rod Carew PSA 9 - 1/10 - no PSA 10s
Gator, sorry I can't help more, but I just looked for well centered cards with no scratches and got lucky.
JEB.
Thanks so much quick question. I'm not sure if the single cards that come in the packs have the little perferation pieces but all my sets are the sendaway so you have to pull them apart. Question is this when you pull them apart sometimes you leave a little notch with no plastic cause it went with the other card is the notched card not 9 worthy.
Larry,
I understand on your theory I bought these mainly to flip or stick in the closet. Something like 66 factory sets. I've scanned through the sets that were open (5) really cool my 79's tend to be a little light with color. My favorites so far are the 82's. I think I can do some 10 damage they look K-krazy as you call it.
Thanks on the info, Gator
Matt, I'm a buyer for all the sets you want to flip. Never had a problem getting top cash to the sellers.
