Almost hit BIN on this 1793 Vines & Bars Cent

The cent is PCGS AG03. The obverse looks great, but the reverse has uneven wear and some odd coloring. My old GS has $240 in AG, $1,200 in G. BIN is $849. Almost bit, but felt I would never be happy with it due to the reverse.

Those early coins are very neat. However I prefer to see more of the details. Considering the price for that grade I guess it is going to be a very, very long time before I ever finish my type set

FWIW: That Wreath Cent has a smooth planchet and decent color, attributes almost never found on an AG. For a certified coin with that "look," it's worth about $600 at the wholesale level. I don't know where you saw a price of $240 in the Gray sheet.

They don't list AGs on the list, and although a Value of $1200 is shown for G, a smooth Good will trade between dealers in the $1500 range or a bit more. Trends shows an AG of a Wreath Cent to have a typical retail price of $1000, so the seller's minimum bid of $749(?) doesn't seem at all unreasonable.

I'll tell you what's REALLY funny. There was another on ebay last week, also AG03 with a starting bid of $1000 and a BIN of $1200. It got sold after 2 days at the $1200 BIN price. So this one selling at the $850 BIN price was $350 less money than the prior one on ebay. Was this one a deal or was that previous one high?????

849 is a bargain for that piece In my humble opinion . Looks to be a very nice planchet. I would love to have one that nice to go with my chain.

The one that sold for $1200 was a lettered edge variety, much scarcer and more valuable than this vine & bars edge variety. That one had a better reverse than this $849 example.

about 6 mo. ago northeast numismatics had an NGC ag-3 listed with a BIN of $425. while I was checking auction results someone else hit it. I'm still kicking myself in the ass over that one. This coin was a fair deal at the BIN, I would have paid that.

I have noticed many of these and chains selling VERY quickly recently. I had 2 raw chains that sold for quite a bit over sheet recently. People want these coins and at a price below $1000 in a PCGS or NGC slab they are a bargain IMO.
