What ya think?

This is not a "Premo" coin like many post and I don't even know if it is real. I did send a message to the seller for better pics and got two back very fast. I like it to add to my ships.
Your opinions are, of course, very welcome

  • I,ve heard of them, beleive they were made from the copper sheathing that was replaced on the Consitution when it was overhaluled a
numbered of years ago (mid 90's?). Looks nice but I know nothing of the provenance or value...
  • Thanks for the reply. I don't know of the background or what this might eventually go for. I am waiting for a while and hope to put in a bid late.
The other photos I got are much better, Obv and Rev and if by chance it is authentic (sp) I will be happy...... assuming I win it.

    Thanks again......image

  • Yes, it looks nice and supposes to be some sort of comm. medal/token I say , not the coin. About the price, Wayne I really don't know what to tell you.

Anyway, it might be a very nice addition to your fleet ! image

  • I figure if I can get in a late bid for$10.50 - 11 plus maybe $5 for shipping I would be happy...very happy actually.

I will post a pic or two that got via e-mail.... not many will be interested but.......image

As for the price seems to be O'k what you think about it..

  • Nick, to be honest $20 dollars (for example) is next to nothing in purchase power here. About 140-150 NOK. You can of course buy groceries and such but that does not go very far.
So 10-15 dollars.... not so much. Of course I don't have it to spend but I can't totally shut down.......image

If you really like it, factor in the shipping cost to bid the max you are willing to pay for it then hope for the best. image Very nice memorabilia of an actual historical frigate.

These medals were struck from parts of the copper sheathing removed during the Constellation's restoration and were sold to help pay for the project. I bought one years ago in the gift shop aboard the ship in Baltimore harbor, but I don't know if they still sell them.

  • Good luck on that Wayne. It's a nice medal and an environmental way to recycle the copper. image

  • I have a small bid in and if it does not get crazy I will have it. This is not a proper coin but it has a great image of a ship and, I like to believe it comes from even a greater ship.image

    I like it.

It looks to fit right in with your theme. Good luck in the closing 24 hours of the auction!

  • Congrats! Very nice looking!!
  • Thanks for all the comments. We all know this is not a proper coin, but I hope it is a real comm. I very much like the ship motif and at least the idea of where it came from. That would be nice, if it is true.
Thanks for accepting my low end value things..... First class folks on here......image
