It could be argued that any coin which depicts an actual person in fact commemorates them. So for people we have ten: Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Washington, Franklin, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Anthony, Sacagawea and Helen Keller. For events you have centennial of Lincolns birth, bicentenniel of washingtons birth, death of Roosevelt, death of Kennedy, death of Eisenhower, Caeser Rodneys ride to cast the deciding vote, The hiding of the CT charter in the oak to prevent its seizure, 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown (Which won't occur for another three years yet.), Washingtons crossing of the Delaware, the first flight at Kittyhawk, and three coins for the countries bicentennial. That is a total of 23. But Lincoln, washington, roosevelt, kennedy, and eisenhower are double referenced so that brings it down to 18 coins

The Lewis and Clark nickels were not included as they have not been issued yet.
