Anyone want to chip in on this common date Morgan Dollar for me (for Christmas)? I didn't think so....

how can you tell it's a '21. Are there die diagnostics?

Edited: They did have to make completely new dies for '21 didn't they?

That's correct - all the master dies were destroyed I think in 1913 so the 1921 dies look definitely different and the coins are identifiable by way of diagnostics. Funny that the seller didn't have a picture of the slab though.

Micro 'S' mintmark. Only used in 1921.

has anyone ever heard of an error like this being a counterfit? the huge price and ability to hide diagnostics makes me curious.

I think it's cool.

$59,000 cool? No way.

I'd be a buyer at maybe one or two percent of the current asking price. Of course, it would sell long before it got that low.

Would be nicer if the date and mintmark were both on the flan.
