Well done (but useless?) article on State Quarters

The monthly Coin Values insert that comes with CW had an in-depth article with color photos that analyzed each State Quarter issued to date and highlighed the areas on each one that will first show signs of wear.
My first thought was, with literally millions of each SQ safely squirreled away in mint rolls and bags, who would ever need to try to figure out whether a SQ is Unc or not? You can buy all the Uncs you can carry for next to nothing, in original rolls.
On the other hand, is there value in learning to detect slight wear on coins with unique designs? I personally don't think being able to detect that a NJ quarter is AU58 is useful in the big picture of learning to grade, since each SQ has a different design with different wear patterns.

difficult to fully comprehend how a coin wears from looking at a single type of coin since
some of the effects will be unique to that coin.
Certainly few of the states issues have much value in VF and finding them in his grade
would be pretty tough anyway. History has a way of repeating itself endlessy and it's
not impossible that some of thes regular issues could gain value in lower grades. One
might be advised to buy something with more potential like corroded zinc cents but eit-
her might make an interesting collection.
