Cameo Franklins rule....! I know well-struck coins are great and all, but I still can't see the logic in paying a 10x premium for little lines on the reverse of a coin. I'm sure FBL lovers will have to flame me for this opinion, but come on! FBL premiums are crazy!

I prefer FBL. After acquiring a few, I get annoyed with non-FBL pieces. On a relatively large coin like a half, absent lines stand out like a sore thumb.

If a coin has some other redeeming facet, like really nice toning, I would still get it, but just as an adjunct to my "real" Franklins.

Pristine gem Franklins which are fully struck are, in my opinion, extremely handsome coins. Looking at the simple design and the broad fields without marks as the designer intended it is quite the sight. Depending on which way you want to go, an MS64FBL set is comprised of coins which for the most part can be had for =/-$50, with a few exceptions that run between $100 and $200. If you want to be a true bargain collector, you can go for MS65's which can be had for as little as $20 slabbed. MS66's are also a good buy in my opinion, though some are getting pricey, even without FBL's. An MS65FBL set (less the 53S) will run you approximately 18-20K - so, as you can see, you have a wide variety of options. The main thing is to collect coins which appeal to you. Don't get hung up on grades as much as eye appeal. If you happen to run into an MS64 that you like, go for it - the amount you spend will minimal - you can always upgrade later after you've become a full blow Frankie Fiend
