EBay ethics question . . .

DMWJRDMWJR Posts: 6,100 ✭✭✭✭✭

Look at this feedback: Feedback Link

With 76 negs and 24 neutrals, if you buy something from him and get screwed, it was:

a. your own stupid fault; or

b. EBay's fault because they shouldn't let someone like that keep selling and hoping that a buyer will make a mistake.

Both A and B, or as Xpipedream put it, C: all of the above.

However, I think A applies the most, here. Anyone who would bid on something from such an obvious loser needs to have "Victim Wannabe" tattooed on his forehead.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

i'm with XpipedreamR....I vote for "C"....all of the above.
Person is harsh....trys to intimidate? kinda funny.....SAD but funny.
eBay should give'em the boot, and if anyone buys from that fool...they deserve what they get, or dont get. no pity for people that buy from such an obviously unreliable seller.

    FACTS:
    1. Only a company that didn't care about consumers would allow this seller to continue to sell.
    2. Only an idiot would buy something from this seller.

When should third parties (not privy to the contract) like EBay become responsible for bad acts?

    Consider these analogies:

    1. I get screwed at a store on main street in my home town (it's not a brothel). I complain to the city counsel who allows this business to remain open. I find out that there have been 74 previous complaints. Does the city become responsible?

    2. The government allows cigarette manufacturers to continue to sell cigarettes on the open market even though there have been the EBay equivalent of 74 complaints made about this. Does the government become responsible if I continue to smoke?

Happened to me yesterday as a matter of fact! Mine was the opposite, though. There was only one on the list when I actually have a couple dozen, and it was not one that I put there. I logged in on a different system and it was back to normal. Weird.

In answer to the question, predominantly A, but also a bit of B.

these are my two favorite positive feedbacks:

"I had faith that you would send it one day...."

"received item broken but Seller sent insurance papers very fast."

it's amazing but there are people out there who keep bidding!!

I agree - perhaps they should have an icon for ebayers like this. Power Slimeball!

    1. I agree with "C", I do think ebay will terminate him relatively soon however. Guys like that never last.

    2. There should be a new ebay icon, Powerscammer!

    3. This immediately violates one of my ebay rules: Never trust ANYONE with less than a 99% positive feedback rating.

    came through

paintings arrived finally, as described, well packed.

delivery took awhile but everything is a ok now

yes, it only took a mouth to get it what service when I pay with a check.

Item as described.Slow shipment.Need to post fixed ship.charge&method of ship.

correct answer is "a". if you don't know by now that ebay is a dumping ground, you deserve to get nailed. yeah yeah yeah, i can hear all the indignant yiping & complaining that it just ain't right, but let's look at this analogy:

With all the negative news and reporting going on, if you go to Iraq and get killed, it was:

    a. your own stupid fault; or
    b. the airline carrier's fault because they shouldn't let someone fly to iraq and make a mistake.
