I got to flaunt this one a bit.

Just won this. I paid almost full book price (-$20) but this one's got the look. image

I like the copper and the gold in that set. The toning on the silver doesn't do it for me, I guess.

(Well, that 3d is nice. And the reverse of the 2 1/2 shilling.) image

Great set. If the 'book' is Krause then it's probably worth more.

Are you saying that Krause might not be infallible?image

There are times when Krause is inflatible. With early Proof Sets they are usually not infallible.

I'm not a big fan of gold coins, but these two look nice and reflective. 1953 proof gold, not much to compare it to.

    Nice set!

What's the bullion value of the coins? I can't remember what I paid for my 1953 set, but at the time (earlier this year) I got it for slightly over melt. The SA proof sets are nice and cheap compared with what I think they should be worth.

total weight on the gold is .353 oz. So, that's how much?? $110 in gold. ( Correction, about $131 at todays price) image

    $199 for a 50 year old proof set,containing $131 worth of bullion?

That's seriously undervalued I think (and with such a small mintage)! Just compare it to the 53 British coronation proof set.

    Nice image

That's what I like about the dark side. Only 3000 minted and you get it for that price. If those were liteside coins, it would probably be near a 100 times that or more. Really nice set too!!

This set arrived today!! image I tried to scan a few but could not get the colors right. There are Royal Blues, Emerald Greens and Gold tones over all of these. I can't wait to show a few of these at FUN. And Joe, Green Lizzie has real competition here! image
