Rare Bois Durci Medal

Here's a chance to own a truly scarce Bois Durci medal. Bois durci was one of the earliest forms of plastic. Typically uniface, they are somewhat fragile and have a texture that feels a bit like wood. Maybe a couple come up on eBay in a year, but rarely so nice. They often have cracks or chips missing. Invented in France, they were briefly popular and Italian examples are scarcer than French.

Bois durci translates literally as "hardened wood"; "dur" translating as hard. What do you call something before the permanent name is given?

I guess you can look at them as the first application for particle boards! image
