I miss seeing phrases like . . . "That coin's in strong hands and we won't see it again for 10 years!"
That's the kind REGISTRY information that would be valuable to those putting together top sets.
For instance, I know where most of the high grade early Proof Lincolns are. I would be very interested if the others exist and when they might come up for sale.
I understand your ire, and I like those other posts, too. The fact is, though, that such posts appear rarely. You're apparently presuming that this occurs because of BST activity and dealer fighting here. The fact that this stuff appears here does not prevent these other posts from occurring, though.
Instead, I think it's because the quality posts you seek concern information that is intrinsically scarce. This simply isn't enough such information to stimulate daily posts. Also, I expect that such quality participation occurs in cycles. People show up and make comments, then they move on, then they return. There is a smaller circle of people who participate inthe Registry than show up on the Coin Board (where, I might point out, the proportion of quality posts is not all that high, either).
My guess is that increasing the number of Boards here won't increase the number of quality posts.
And Lord knows, we've debated BST phenomena here much more than we've ever debated Registry quality coins.
I say let it ride, and start posting the good posts.
I didn't see the 'I Can't Decide' choice, so I didn't vote.
I've purchased a number of coins from this forum and like having 'first shot', so to speak, before the coins go to the BST or Ebay. What is getting old is the bickering, pi$$ing, and moaning. I could live without that.
If you're going to make a comment about someone, make it.
Wow! All the things that you guys don't like are the things I come here for.
Do not fall into the error of the artisan who boasts of twenty years experience in his craft while in fact he has had only one year of experience... twenty times.

It does make for interesting reading, sometimes. Sometimes people have to let off steam with no harm being done. I guess it's a checks and balances thing. But it shouldn't take up half of the posts on the front page. I think that's what irritates some.
What's really wrong with the BST's here. I use them to buy and sometimes sell. I think most folks find them ok, particularly if the thread title says what it is. An offer to buy or an offer to sell. If yo don;t like it, then don't open it!
The dealer bickering should be on the open forum. Not here. I voted yes, but I think the question should be seperated to "Dealer Fighting" and "BST Action."

If this forum is for all things registry related then b/s/t/ high end coins belong here. The re(d)cent bickering belongs somewhare but not here, maybe the open forum or a parking lot. As the question is worded I voted no.
The Open forum is not as lawless as you might believe. We have banded together several times this year to send comfort packages to Ray Paseo and his comrades in Iraq as well as others near and dear to us. The open forum is for all things, including civility. What may appear as hostility is often just rough housing. However like any gathering place of individuals there are problems. Some members even post coin photos on the Open Forum because they don't feel like having their coin tore apart by some of the so called "helpful" members of the coin forum who are just being "honest".
I voted no also. It's nice to see real quality coins offered here. And if there is a difference of opinion, I don't mind seeing that too. Sometimes I learn something from both sides.
Maybe the question was poorly worded. Actually I like the Open Forum and post there pretty regularly. It's still pretty much "anything goes."
Last night I just looked at the first page of the Registry Forum, and 12 of the 20 threads showing were BST threads (which didn't always include pop-top material), and petty bickering and name calling.
This forum has gotten so sluggish, that often times you can see threads originating for the past three days all on the front page (20).
Hopefully some board members will look in the mirror when they read this and reconsider some of the posts they make.
Doug, I agree with you that it would be nice if the Registry forum was used to talk about Registry coins and not all the other BS. Unfortunately, everyone can post ANYTHING they want on ANY of the boards. While I too dislike the recent posts that Roger made about Mark, I do appreciate SOME of the comments and information Roger provides about MY coin of interest, the Lincoln Cent. I somehow sense that Roger is branching into being a "dealer" or a "trader/investor" rather than a collector. The motivation of "it's all about the money" rather than "its all about the coin" bothers me, BUT I do recognize a person has the right to be involved with this hobby in whatever way they want to. JMHO. Steve

What happened to posts like,
" I know where 3 of the 6 graded PR67 1936 quaraters are. Who knows where the other three are and can they be bought?"

Actually, when I need a good dose of that, I go to the open forum which is pretty much lawless.
Looks like you folks choosing both sides.
Two problems with this:

Very funny bear. I've said the same thing about work. If it weren't for the employees and customers, my job would be pretty good.
