Ohio Coin Show report

Got to the last day of the Ohio Coin show today outside of Cleveland. Met up with keets, CameoCC and Scoobydoo for an enjoyable breakfast before the show and keets was nice enough to pick up the check.
They advertised 100 tables but I don't think it was quite that big. There were a handful of stamp dealers and, compared to the typical ratio, quite a few dealers with foreign material. Apparently the entire state of Ohio is required by law to watch the Ohio State-Michigan game, so attendance was light, and the start of the show through noon was the busiest time.
Got to talk to mdwoods and quarterjack, and chatted a bit with Dennis from Jade Coin who had a table with really nice bust stuff and early copper. Also saw really nice coins at ROMA Coins and at Acropolis Coins, where Gus gave keets and I a lesson in identifying PVC contamination and knowing the difference between removable and non-removable PVC. mdwoods is kind of like Norm from Cheers - every dealer knows his name!
Only picked up four cheap modern proofs for my type set, because the Buffalo proofs I saw were too much. Probably the one thing that sticks with me was seeing a case full of PCGS and NGC slabbed gold with prices going up to about $4K, accompanied by a single raw coin in a 2x2 - a 1799 Eagle priced at $12,500. All I could think of was "I wonder what is wrong with that 1799." It really looked odd in that case full of slabs.
Interestingly, the show was Thursday through Saturday (instead of ending on Sunday).

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

There's just something about paying $4 to get into a show that really rubs me the wrong way.
Was Butterworth there? I like looking at his Old copper!
I bought a PCGS box from him on the way out and I figured he wouldn't remember me from the ANA Summer Seminar. After I paid him for the box I opened it up and (innocently) looked at him and said "Hey, there aren't any coins in this one".
I don't like paying $4 either, but I don't have the chance to attend many shows so I go when I can. Actually, I came out ahead because keets paid for breakfast!

it's hard for me to pass up a free meal, also............ about those Proof Buffalo's that Gus had, do think anyone else saw the sweat beads forming on your forehead, or the way they dropped off when he said he had to sell them as a year set with the other coins, couldn't bust them up??? i know that deep down you want a Proof Buffalo, how long do you think you'll be able to hold out??
just for clarity, that OSU/Michigan law is Ohio HB-18128528129--------a little known referendum that was passed by Ohio Legistators in the late 60's when Woody Hayes was starting to take boxing lessons!!
