Canon A70 any good?

Looking to buy a new camera to take pics of coins. My current camera won't do macro. Anyone know if the Canon A70 is any good in macro? I like the $300 price tag for lots of features.

Personally, I use a scanner to "take pictures" of my coins. I can set it to the quality I want, so I can get a nice small picture of I can scan it so it's 100 meg if I want (I dont though...too much memory/slow/to big to post).
Yeah, I havnt posted any pix here...but my desktop computer isn't up at this time as I've recently moved and am workin off my laptop.

My advice, consider a scanner. Cheaper and easier for macro stuff than a camera (which I've tried and gave up on quickly). Maybe others have better luck with cameras, but I cant do it.

While some people do have luck with scanners, the truth behind them is that they, for the most part, produce a lower quality picture--it is difficult for them to pick up color, and nearly, if not completely impossible to pick up luster.

I fully suggest looking into a camera- they take time to master, but the options they give are enormous.

As the designated coin photographer in our household, I used to use a scanner for its speed and ease. However, I found that our digital Nikon (with only 2 MP max) was far superior in capturing the minute details on even smaller coins. And, using standard photo editing software, it was fairly simple to reduce the picture size to "postable" dimensions.

The only problem I encountered was providing proper lighting without glare. Now I just take the coins outside during daylight hours. Nikon cameras, as I understand it, have some diffculty with low-light focus, but I don't think Canon has the same issues.

ok you guys. :-) You make me wanna pick up my camera and try again. Perhaps if I use a tripod and patience, I'll get the hang of it. I'll try and get my desktop up and running again and compare scanner and digicam pix of the same coin and see what happens. If the results are drastic, I'll post'em.
You give good advice, I'll try to change my method and see what happens. :-)
