You buy a PSA grade card and it has play in the holder

do you worry it may be trimmed or just smaller then normal? Top to bottom and and side to side play in the holder. I am thinking of sending the card back to psa and have them look at the card again. What would you do? I cant post a scan my "new " scanner just plan stinks on slabbed cards it would be blurry.

  • There should be some play in the holder. If it seems to be more than usual, the card may be a touch small. I personally wouldn't worry about it. PSA is pretty good about spotting trim jobs and certainly about measuring the card--though mistakes DO happen. If you're uncomfortable with it, wait for PSA to do a show and present it on-site. Things tend to get done that way versus call, pack, ship, wait, call, wait some more, call again, get irritated, call again, wait, call again, and get the card back as if no one has even looked at it.

As for the scanner-- set the descreen to magazine or none...see if that helps. Good luck with the card and the scanner.

  • It really depends on the year and/or type of card your speaking of. Especially with vintage sets you'll find varying sizes of cards. It doesn't necessarily make them trimmed.

However, I have found that PSA has occasionally slabbed some of my cards in holder they flat out are too small for. Any time that has happened to me PSA has taken them back and remedied the problem. In all cases, the card in question ended up in a poly sleeve within the slab because PSA didn't carry a holder for that size card.

I'd send Peter Ma an e-mail if I where you with scans of your card. He'll point you in theright direction.

  • The card is an 1983 TOpps I own several graded and non has play like this card. Maybe I am to paranoid? I will look and it some more and compare it to others I have. It is just so hard to see the edges in the holder. Unlike BMW I cant tell from a slab. image
