Roosevelt Population up almost a 1000 coins this week!

Roosevelt Population up almost a 1000 coins this week, well 949 to be exact.
That's is about three time the norm.

The vast majority of the increase was in the silver set, with the clad’s only showing slight increases in the 99 and newer coins.
I spotted about 24 coins that were crossed from Non FB to FB.

The early fifty "D" mint coins got most of the action, with 53D showing 159 coins submitted and 57 new FB's
52D had 69 coins with 53 of those gaining their FB, and 50D with 41 coins, 31 with FB.

The "S" mint coins had some submissions with 55 coins for 53S, and 42 coins for 54S non of which made FB.

All in all a busy week for them.

I'm still waiting on my freebee submission and an economy submission for another 18 coins to come back so I can add to the pile.

  • I noticed the same thing and was wondering if this is going to be a long term trend. New collectors and fb hunters could make this a hot market.

No big changes in the key dates. There are 6 coins starting to separate themselves from the pack.
The 1963 and The 1963D each have 13 FB coins graded, The lowest of any other silver Roosie. A
close second is the 1956 and 1957, each with 14 FB coins graded. And third is the 1958 and 1949S,
each with 15FB coins graded. Then the numbers start to rise by quite a bit.

  • there was a bulk order of silver roosevelts slabbed at NGC recently. I would guess that sooner or later you will see large groups of these slabbed from bulk orders. There are too many rolls sitting around for this NOT to happen.
  • The break down is something like this

    MS69FB 2 new (2000,ish coins)
MS68 140 most of which are 2001-P(26) and 2000-P(86) the rest are late date clads

    MS67 97 new 63 of which are silver and 47 of those got FB nothing earth shaking 48-D got 4, 50-D got 5, 53-D 7, 62-D 4, and 64-D got 4 more.

MS66 got the most with 700 new coins, goes to show the high end nature of the coin.

Nothing to new just alot of coins for one week.

Most of the bulk orders slab out at a minimum grade of MS66FB of which 95% get the 66FB grade.
Unless you get a few of the better dates most of the 66FB's might get you back your grading fee
plus a few bucks, and thats in a PCGS holder. Why someone would put a bulk order in at NGC is
beyond me. I will be curious to see how he does.

    "MS69FB 2 new (2000,ish coins)"

These coins had nothing to do with any bulk grading. I personally slabbed both of these MS69FB coins last week. Paid $715 in grading fees to submit my finest (11) clad late date dimes raw (selected from a weeding process that started with thousands upon thousands of original mint set clad dimes) and pulled the (2) MS69FB winners. They are awesome coins - OnlyRoosies got the pop 2, 2001(d) for his collection and I still have the pop 3 99(d), as my customer and OnlyRoosies already have one (I slabbed the other 2 specimens and also passed them along to my customer and Nick). It will probably end up with a type set collector I suspect.

IMHO, MS69FB clads will be the "crown jewels" of the clad series as time goes by, just like MS68FB are the "crown jewels" of the silver series at this time. I can not tell you how difficult it is to locate and slab a TRUE MS69FB clad dime. The difference between a typical MS68FB Roosie and a typical MS69FB Roosie is night and day. The MS69FB specimens are really works of art by the mint. The same is true for trying to locate a clad Kennedy Half in MS69. I have never seen a "lock" MS69 coin and only have a couple coins that even have a shot to make the MS69 plateau. image

While dimes are the easiest of the clads and moderns to find in gem, there are many dates/mm's
that are just as tough as the other denominations to find in top grades. It would seem that these
would always be easier in top grade since the size of the coin makes a good strike more likely and
its light weight makes marks less of a problem. Indeed there are some issues where the really top
grades aren't that difficult but this doesn't apply across the board.
