Sure, thanks to California's "educational reforms" of the 1960s which has single handedly degraded education in America more than most any other factor over the last 40 years. To the point where even California finally rejected it. I'm referring to whole language and cooperative learning child psychology approaches in the classroom. They are the ones who popularized "inventive spelling" of which this is an example.

No, PURIEST is not a word.
But PUREST is, like in "THIS IS THE PUREST OF THE PUREST IN FINE SILVER... " unless you're using it in the comparative form instead of superlative, then it would be "THIS IS THE PURER OF THE PURER IN FINE SILVER... "

I think that would be prurient interests; I have them all the time. Then again there is the purist.
