Safe & Secure?

Being a collector starting up again I would like to ask an opinion about safety and storage of my coins. You always hear about safe deposit boxes and that’s all fine and dandy but what about a collector that likes to see parts of his collection frequently?

I don’t mean by having my whole collection at home but what about some of it or new purchases that I want to send off to grade possibly or I have not had time to get to the bank. I am puzzled as to what is my best bet for the home outside of my present alarm system which really won’t deter the would be burglar?

Please Help!

Thank you,

Bill.

Hi and welcome. I have my coins insured. I only show my coins to close friends/relatives. I do not leave them in the open if a repair person is coming. If you have a gun safe, that is a good place. I guess I would say insurance is your best protection if you like to look at them which I do.

    before I collected....

I spent years convincing everyone within 50 miles of me that i was dangerous and crazy...that seems to work.

couple that with several ads from "booby trap magazine" (how to build sections) just laying around.

and a rough first draft of my manafesto (written in chicken blood for effect) on the coffee table,

i don't seem to have many problems.....or family ...or friends...

or you could get em insured and one of those home monitoring security systems.
some put their coins in a large gun safe (this works pretty well) they're heavy, big and not easily carried off. image

Thanks! The insurance I have started to inquire about. The gun safe I thought about and it's a great idea. I am looking at all suggestions and options types of safety brands other types of safes etc

I don't really show my coins to anyone and less than a handful of very close friends know.

I don't know how you feel about "man's best frend", but a couple of very large dags seems to make the righteous feel safe and the evil ones scatter. I know that there are plenty of high-tech security devices, but, because I love them anyway, I prefer the huge dog security method. It also works well in combination with all other security plans.

I have a small safe that's bolted to the floor and so well disguised you could walk by it several times a day forever and never have a clue. I also have steel bars on the windows and doors, motion sensors attached to halogen flood lighting, video camera and an alarm system that both alerts the police and sets off a 150dB siren if not de-activated in 10 seconds.

A big safe, a big gun and a couple of big dogs - nobody messes with my coins!

I used to think big dogs and safes were the answer. I don't think my dog's lives are worth the sacrifice for my coin collection. Keeping coins with guns kinda turns the coin thief into an armed coin thief. That's why I built a trapdoor and tunnel system in my house and on my property. unwelcome visitors do not return frm the tunnel. bwahahahahaha!!!
