Anyone tell me if this is worth anything?
I bought a small chest at an local auction. I found a secret compartment inside, opened it and found this coin and a 1797 large cent. COOL!
This is all I know about this coin.
The original die for the BORN VIRGINIA obverse was apparently purchased from the Westwood firm by the Newburyport, MA diemaker Jacob Perkins around 1818 or 1819. Then Albert Collis purchased the die for $5000 and in 1959 struck 5,000 single faced examples in copper (Baker 22D). The die now resides in the American Numismatic Society in New York City, NY.
Thank you,
Glenn
