1947 Canadian cent

I didn't know foreign coins could be soooo much FUN! I'm sitting here giggling like a little girl and I'm 41 year old man!

I'm going through my Canadian coins to see what I have, and I came across this 1947 cent with a star?(see pic.) by the date.
Is this a mint mark?

The 'star' is a Maple Leaf. They were put on coins when India was no longer a Brit colony but the coins still have 'ET IND: IMP' on them. Later 1947 cents don't have the Maple Leaf.

And the value of the 1947 maple leaf penny in UNC is actually less than the regular 1947 due to a much higher mintage.

There's also a scarce dot variety where the dot is at the bottom right corner of the 7.

To follow up on what ajaan explained, the maple leaf mark indicates the coin was struck with the 1947 date in 1948 before the new 1948 dies were ready.
