Karl Goetz was a prolific and popular -- and sometimes controversial -- German medalist and is perhaps most well-known for his satirical medals (chiefly addressed to Germany's enemies). He created medals from the last decade of the 19th century through WWII. He also produced a number of pattern coins for Germany, Prussia and his native Bavaria; none became issued coins, but German coinage suffered for the lack. Goetz is especially noted for forming cast medals so expertly they appear struck.
