Grade This IHC

Hi, I'm new here and am getting back into coin collecting after a long absence. I found this 1859 IHC in a roll of IHC I got on eBay. I initially graded it VF but changed my mind to simply Fine. Was I correct in doing so?

Although quite dark, I would grade it VF-25.

I would say it's a borderline Fine since LIBERTY is full but starting to disappear.

It's hard to tell, but I would say maybe VF 20.

Based on the photo, I would grade this coin VG-8. I want to give it a Fine but it's difficult to see the letters in the word "Liberty" on the obverse. Also, I think the corrosion would keep it from grading higher. Welcome to the boards!

One thing about the coin, the "corrosion" is a result of file compression by my scanner software. There are no green PVC spots or other signs of corrosion on the coin. Here's another look with a (hopefully) better scan.

Welcome to the forums. From the photos, I'd have to say F12. It still looks to have environmental problems, hopefully from the scan.

Corrosion isn't necessarily green spot or Pvc . Would probably be bodybagged unless PCI or ANACS might grade it very fine detail net fine12 enviromental damage.

As I said, I'm just getting back into coin collecting after a long layoff and thought anything concerning corrosion would be like green spots from PVC flips. Can someone provide me with a definition of corroded or show how the IHC's corroded?
