Solicting advice: Time to submit regrades or hold off?

I have about a half-dozen liner/undergraded PCGS slabs that I intend to have regraded. But, in light of submission-grade posts and other comments lately, I wonder if it is time to park them for awhile. From my personal experience, I received a couple of sterling grades on my last raw submission, while another went 0-for-3 on three SMS coins that I thought would CAM ... The coins I am thinking of resubmitting are all 1938-1953 Jeff proofs ... anyone have any suggestions on whether to take the plunge or hold off? I personally believe these coins would grade higher, in my specialty, no less, but as we all have learned, knowing a particular series inside out does not mean PCGS will agree ...

I don't know if I buy into that "they are tight right now' thinking.....

And I don't know if there ever is a ideal time....

I say go fo it, and let the chips fall where they may....

Are you talking about "regrades" or crackouts to submit raw? Despite assertions to the contrary from PCGS, I like the odds raw better than regrade.

I would be interested in seeing how much money is spent on resubmissions/money gained from upgrades. It would beinteresting to see someone keep track of their own personal expenditure for a period of time to see what the balance is. Seems like there are quite a few that never get upgraded, a few that go down, and a few that go up.

Russ: These are in-slab regrades ... I do not want to take a chance on getting lower grades given the cost of a few of these ... Raw, they should do no worse than they are now, but I don't need a PR-68 downgraded to a 67 ... One coin in question, a '53 Jeff, deserves a CAM. The picture is bit deceiving as to the depth of the cameo. This coin is (should be) CAM all day long, but obviously did not go the first time around ...





FYI, I have cracked out some PCGS slabs and submitted coins raw, but never have sent in any for regrade.

Nice Coin! I would go for it now. There never seems to be a "good" time to send them in.

I am no Jefferson expert, but the frost doesn't appear to be heavy enough for cam designation, the mirrors may be fine, but I think the frost is the kicker.

I have submitted many proof Franklins and I will say that if there is even a hint of shine on the raised devices on either the obverse or reverse PCGS will not give the Cameo attribution. I have sent a Frankie in that had better frosting on the obverse than a PR68DCAM that I had sent in, but the reverse had a hint of shine and it was graded PR.

I got a upgrade not long ago. I don't think pcgs has a policy in effect now that no coins get a upgrade.

Like someone said before..."Tighter than a mouse's anus." I am holding my coins now and even trying to sell some raw. I haven't submitted a coin to PCGS for almost three months and I don't plan on it for a while. I have just gotten butchered on submissions. And there was a time about a year ago, that I was pretty right on with most submissions.
