The December 5-7, 2003 Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention is close to being our largest convention to date. The rare coin and currency markets are extremely HOT, and if this rise in precious metals prices continues to go up business at the show will skyrocket.
It is the last major numismatic convention of the year, with six weeks until the F.U.N. Convention, and a lot of dealers will be on hand to business. Two major auctions, Bowers & Merena, and the Presidential Coin and Antique Auction will feature an amazing group of Frazier material and other very rare Exonumia and Political Memorabilia. Laura Sperber, from Legend Numismatics, will be dislaying the extremely rare 1884 and 1885 Trade Dollars in NGC Proof 66. All youngsters, 12 or under, get a Free Handfull of Money, and our generous dealers and collectors help keep the Kid's bucket filled with numismatic goodies to help bring youngsters into our hobby and our business. Major Grading Services will be on hand including ANACS, PCGS, NGC, IGC, and PCI. PCGS and PCI will be doing on-site grading. Krause Publications and Coin World will be on hand. Representatives of the A.N.A., Baltimore Coin Club, Maryland State Numismatic Association, Bust Quarter Collectors Club, Maryland Token and Medal Society, Early American Copper Club, Ancient Numismatic Society of Washington, D.C., will be on hand and to discuss their organizations, and most will hold meetings, lectures and educaitonal programs, that are open to the public. Bust Quarter Club on Friday at 3 P.M. Other all day Saturday.
We do have a one hour meeting room available at 3-4 P.M. on Saturday and if there is enough interest we could schedule a meeting for the internet folks that would like to get together and meet each other. I would have to know this pretty quick though.
The Convention is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10-4 on Sunday. There is always FREE
ADMISSION for everyone Friday through Sunday. Thursday's are our dealer only "Super Bourse" and all legitimate dealers are welcome. There is a $100.00 registration fee, $25.00 which is donated to Childern's Hospital. Our total donations is right around $150,000.00 for Children's Hospital to date. Thursday is an extremely busy wholesale day for dealers. Friday is always strong at Baltimore, and Saturday is amazing. Sunday is still a very good business day and more relaxed with less crowds. It is going to be a very strong show.
Host hotels are the Marriott, Holiday Inn, and the Sheraton. The evening sessions of the Bowers and Merena Auction will be held at the Marriott and morning sessions at the Covention Center. The Presidential Auction will be held at the Convention Center on Saturday starting at 5:30 P.M. Lot viewing for Bowers and Merena will start on Tuesday at the Marriott, and starting Thursday at the Convention. Morning and evening sessions on Thursday and Friday.
Did I mention there will be some extremely strong business there? Well all indications are it is going to be hot and heavy. A lot of dealers will be there to buy, others there to sell, most to do both. There will also be a major supply dealer at the Convention and the United States Postal Service will have a full service both at the show.
All this and the Inner Harbor area of Baltimore makes for a great Covention. Great food, plenty of nearby historical sites and attractions, nightlife, and did I forget to mention Crab Cakes.
