My coins came today

Here's the original thread

Not knowing much about world coins and not having a Krause book yet, I still think it's probably safe to say that it is AT LEAST 99% junk. image

Fortunately the lesson wasn't too expensive.

  • I hope this bad experience does not discourage you from the darkside.

  • Absolutely not! In fact I saw a few in there that I really liked. Maybe not worth much, but I really liked the look. One was an Italian coin from the 1940s, can't remember the exact date. Just makes me more hungry to get a hold of some nice darkside coins when money permits. I still love the lightside, but sometimes it hurts my wallet just to think about it.

And for all I know, there could be something of real value in there. Won't know until I get a book. Just going through the lot with a book will really broaden my currently limited knowledge, so I can't complain. image

That would surprise me,unless we're talking "sentimental" value. In between us,you didn't expect much from such an offering did you?

Plus, you've got yourself a Churchill crown ! imageimage

  • Well, I knew it was a gamble, but yes I did expect a something nice to turn up. It was hunch I guess. And I also expected a better mix instead of so many repeats. I feel more sorry for him, he bought a hundred pounds of the stuff. I hope for his sake he got it really cheap.
  • Oh and yes, I will cherish that Churchill crown forever. image
  • Bulk lots are a good way to get started, I have done a few myself, but now mostly I look for specific coins. Occasionaly I buy bulk lots from
liteside dealers who don't take the time to go through them. Can't say I have found any high value coins that way, usually from 5 cents
    to 5 dollars.....

There still fun though, especially on those bad weather days, you can always explore your coins...... image

Hoardmonster, I'm glad you're enjoying your entry into the DARK.

Besides trying to accumulate as much knowledge about coins as possible, I use this forum as a place to find great coins and killer deals. I highly recommmend the Sunday Swap Meets as a place to find some wonderful coins at very reasonable prices. Often the members here list those items here exclusively, or before listing them on ebay.

  • hmmm...That's weird, I didn't even know there were Sunday swap meets. If there is one today, I will probably miss it since I will be working most of the day. But it's good to know for the future!! Great coins and killer deals, yep, that's right up my alley. image

If you have any dutch coins you could ask me for the value, I am dutch and have the major dutch catalogues.
