Definitely the black-with black the eye looks only at the coin; with blue the eye has a tendency to wander a little. The strong contrast between the black background and the coin is a positive.

Black is always the best contrast for gold/yellow/brassy colors.

    Looks good.

OK, I'll be the odd man out and say that I like the blue background better. But I think I agree that black contrasts the coin better. In fact, with the black, the coin is lighter and shows details more. I wonder why that is.

nice coin and perhaps alittle underrated...? Now, as for the question... Black would be my choice

Black on this case, but blue with gold imo.For silver,it mostly depends on the toning: sometimes, red is nice too.

The brass threepences are not so underrated coinkat: they're getting harder and harder to come by in decent conditions ( from my experience with a UK minor album ,that doesn't even need key-dates).

    Glenn!

Blue is nice, but it changes by some way the toning of the coin. So, as it isn't our aim the black is preferable in that case. By the way, may be most of the guys will say that it is not serious, but I saw nice and contrast pic. of coins on white background!

I have no information about the availability of the brass 3 pence pieces, but I really like them for some reason, especially the bright uncirculated ones, and I've decided to try to buy them whenever I can find them for good prices.

Black looks better for this coin.

PS I am told Wybrit would like this one...

Under normal circumstances, I would. 1939 is a good date for the series. I do have a pretty decent one in hand now, however.image
