Any neat cards this week anyone?

What was the best card you bought this week? And why?

I got myself a nice PSA 7 1959 Yogi Berra for my set I am working on.

  • I just won a 1966 PSA 7 Gaylord Perry for my set. I haven't received it yet. Now all I need is a big Willie. Willie Mays, that is.

    1963T Dodgers in 8s

I snagged an SGC 88 1950 Bowman Elroy Hirsch and an SGC 92 1958 Topps Sonny Jurgensen. I plan on sending both in to be crossed over to PSA holders..Hopefully 8's..

I picked up a 1960 Topps Stan Mikita RC PSA 5 and a 1957 Topps Glenn Hall RC PSA 6. I paid close to SMR for both, but I think it was a fair price. I needed them for my Hall of Fame Blackhawks Rookies set.

Traded for a 64 Rose and bought a 65 Rose PSA 7 on eBay. Not sure if these were really great deals but I really love these cards (and need them for my set).

Picked up a PSA 7 1934 batter up card #81. It is the highest graded and also the first card in the second series(high number).

'60 Lake to Lake Braves Al "Red" Schoendienst SCDA 9 (higher than any SGC or PSA card from this set - BGS/BVG have not graded any from this set, and I can't find anything from GAI).
I threw in an opening bid on this card, mainly to track it, and no one else bid. [Okay, when it got close to the end, I threw in another higher bid to keep it from getting sniped too cheaply.]

NICK - Do you have it in your possesion? And if so do you think it would translate to a PSA-9? ...jay
  • NickMNickM Posts: 4,895 ✭✭✭
jay - not yet. I'm also very hesitant about guessing 8 vs. 9 on vintage cards generally. FWIW, SCD gave it a 10 for centering and 9s on both edges and surface.
    The seller's scan is here.
If you or someone you know is interested in it, I'm definitely willing to part with it (sale or trade).

  • I picked up a 1957 Topps Lucky Penny card PSA 8. The population is only 4. A super neat card of a tough redemption with a color picture of Bazooka Joe on the back of the card.

Verry Happy with the pick up. image

  • I bought a 1913 T213 Ray Demmitt in the St Louis uniform because a T206 would of been a thousand more.

  • Just got a 1959 Topps Willie Mays PSA 9 "The Catch" in the mail.

I've owned this card in the past and I couldn't pass up getting it again for $175 off SMR.
Of course, now that I've got my sights set on a 1949 Bowman set, I'm probably gonna need to turn it around to pay for it! image

Yes the card is a reprint of the 1933 Goudey ...

    Albie,
That really isn't such a nice card, but the price was nice (of you).
If you want one just graded a straight 7 (really clean and sharp) pm me, it's not mine and priced at SMR or slightly higher, which made this one more attractive even with the st qualifier (probably get it regraded as a 5 for my set). Did you go to Toronto ? I wasn't willing to drive through the storm with the added travel time...and E-bay has been rocking lately for me.

    Eric,
I hunt (collect if you must) very few mainstream issues.

Mojorob, I wonder if you would have gotten a 9 on the Tittle image
  • Scored a very sweet psa 8 1975 topps Harmon Killebrew mini, as good as a 9 in my book. I love it when you get surprised, when a card is actually better than expected. To many times it's the other way around. Might just get hooked into the mini seen. Sweet Rollins card Y........NHLfightguy
