First Flight Commem Half Question.

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
I seem to be seeing these Half-Dollars listed on eBay, at the BST forum and other venues as "Silver" Half-Dollars and I'm wondering if I'm missing the boat or everyone is just misrepresenting the coins since they are actually clad, at least the one I have is a clad.

Someone help me out here. Thanks.

    hey Barracuda

i assume you mean $10/gold, $1/silver and half-dollar/clad as opposed to the half coming in all three metals, correct??

<< <i>They come in Gold, Silver, and Clad as far as I know. >>

The question at hand is the half dollar, that is clad only.

Yes, you're right - didn't consider the denoms.

the whole thing strikes me as being reminiscent of when the Ike Dollars were released in 1971 and promoted as the new "Silver Dollars" by some which caused the government to step in with a disclaimer. it might seem like a trivial point, but when i notice a forum member doing it................it's bad enough that a new issue is driven to 3-5 times issue price by overeager buyers, is deceptive advertising really necessary, also? especially by someone who should know they are clad and not silver.

it may sound a little self-righteous on my part to even bring this up, but i figure we need to hold ourselves to a slightly higher standard here given the constantly mentioned concern for newcomers to the hobby.

Yes, unfortunately silver is a descriptive color and a "silver dollar" has come to mean any $1 denomination coin whether silver or not.
