How can Pistrucci do so well on this and be so bad on english kings? Nice one trozau-are you going for it?

Twenty-four hundred?? Hmmmm? Anyone have that book which lists the mintages of the gold piece?

Here's the same medal in Silver (needs to be re-imaged, but hey! image )

Is the silver the same dimension as the gold (36.5 mm)? Or larger?

trozau, yes! The silver piece is identified by Fearon-289.1, designed by
Pistrucci (my boy, Benny!! image); 37 mm diameter; this and the gold are the official RM issue; the silver had a mintage of only 2209.

Oh, man. That is to die for. Wait! It's to kill for...image Trozau, it's screaming your name. You should liquidate some of your modern bullion to get it. If not, some other High Roller will, and you'll regret it when you see some Mouse scurrying away with that beautiful one ounce hunk of golden sculpture.image

I didn't think there were any "official" Royal Mint coronation medals for Victoria. image

A year or two ago, I had the chance to buy this gold George IV coronation medal from Steinberg's but didn't (another of Benedetto Pistrucci's work). It is the same size as the gold Victoria coronation medal.

What condition is the silver medal in?

I have this bit of data on the George IV Coro. medal......

35 mm diameter. Plain edge. Mintage in silver: 1,060. Reference: Fearon-272.1. Eimer-1146.

This basic design was copied in low relief for the regular coinage, which is known as the Laureate Head.

Eimer notes that the Buckinghamshire Yeomen wore this medal as George's Royal Escort at the ceremony. Those examples will be edge inscribed B.Y.C.H, and most likely in gEF condition or slightly better.

I know of a choice proof on the market several years ago with an asking price of $550 or so. An impaired specimen, of course, would fetch far less. Of course, with the recent increase in UK coinage, patterns, etc., prices for choice or better specimens could be considerably higher. Hard to guage since this isn't exactly a heavily traded market sector.
