1980 Topps Pepsi Test Cards

Does anyone have any freaking clue where the 1980 Topps/Pepsi cards ended up? It seems as if there may only be one to three examples of each card known -- and I am just curious if it is "known" where any of these might reside.

I was thinking of asking Olbermann directly -- but I do not have his e-mail address, only his ebay name. Does anyone have his e-mail address? I know that he has the Reggie Orioles Topps card -- so I wonder if he might have some of the 1980 Pepsi examples....

If you know his Ebay ID, can you not contact him through Ebay's blind email process?

What is the design of the cards? Is it similar to the Topps design?

  • Ha, I'm sure Olbermann would love to be outed on a board such as this one. That's privileged info for the Mikeschmidts of the collecting world. But if he does lurk, tell him I share his passion for his Herman Hill autographed card. I know the truly rare in the signed card world and that's a beauty.

    Neal:

The cards are not that much different than the Burger King and/or Coca-Cola cards from the same time period. There was a Pepsi Logo on front -- and one on the back. I can scan a copy of one of the cards sometime (a scan of a copy, etc....)

There, I believe, was either only one or three uncut sheets of the Pepsi cards ever produced. One of the sheets was subsequently cut up and the individual cards were distributed into the hobby (including cards of Schmidt and Carlton....).

I think that there may only be singular examples of each card stored away in private collections currently. I have no clue what the "values" of the cards are. The SCD guide prices them out at around $1,250 for commons up to $3,500 for Schmidt. But who know what would happen when/if one of these would surface again. I can say that I have not seen or heard of one surfacing in the hobby over the last 6 years.

If you would produce a scan, I'd appreciate it too. I've been wanting to see what they look like as well. If they are similar in appearence to the original 1980 Topps set, how many of the cards were produced as part of the Pepsi set?

Sorry to revive this ancient thread. I remember that there were some people, including myself, wondering what a 1980 Pepsi card looked like. The Topps Vault currently has a set of proofs for sale on ebay.

I understand that the finished product is incredibly rare and the Standard Catalog lists commons for thousands of dollars. If that is the case, the proofs look to be a great bargain at the current price level.
