I love a bargain...any one else pick up a bargain

Just had to share ...I am so excited~~~~~http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2765106032&category=28085 I dont know why he listed it so cheap. DSL listed one and it is a 250.00 with days to go. BTW I noticed the serial number and DSL's are very very close....hmmmmm. Just an observation , happy to have another PSA 10. And I can tell the diffrence between a 9 and a 10. image

    James> "And I can tell the diffrence between a 9 and a 10"

But can you tell the difference between a 9 and a 10 from a scan?

I've caught some great deals lately. Here's my latest.

The card I snagged with "Buy it now" on 3 Nov.
    Card #1

Same card with auction ended on 8 Nov.
    Card #2

Needless to say, the 2nd highest bidder is no longer shopping for this card. image

Deals can be still be had on "the bay"...

While I'm not working on Set Registry version of this set yet, i think this lot was a steal and half:

    25--Autograph 1970/71 Topps w/Chamberlain - $105.49

This came from the most recently completed Mastronet Auction, and I was bummed that I didn't have the $4000 for the whole lot of autographs (it was a football and basketabll lot). Instead I got one of the cards I wanted the most out of it (Chamberlain) for a fraction of the price. Can't beat that with a stick!

JasP24, great pickup on the Butkus. My best bargain was a raw '66 Butkus that I picked up on eBay that graded out as a 7 nq.

schr1st, that Chamberlain auto is pretty cool across his headband like that.
  • But can you tell the difference between a 9 and a 10 from a scan? From a very good scan...yes. Not a ebay scan. I used a good scan on a auction recently. And it made a diffrence ...link.....

That Chamberlin auto is very nice. The headband was a great spot to sign the card!

I've picked up some fantastic deals lately.

    Here are a few:

    '53 Topps # 239 (Jim Delsing) PSA 5
Not bad for a single-printed high number.

    '54 Topps # 74 (Bill Taylor) SCDA 7
PSA 6 middle series cards from this set go for $20 to $30 for commons routinely, and PSA 7 cards are usually over $50.

    '72 Topps # 596 (Manny Mota) PSA 8
I will buy any semi-high or high number PSA 8s from 1972 that anyone else wishes to sell for below the grading cost. image

7 #/1000 rookies of Jerry Porter
Good thing I got these before he had a TD yesterday.

    '54 Topps # 22 (Jim Greengrass) GAI 7.5
PSA 6 cards from this set go for more than that price.

There are a few other vintage PSA cards that I got for well under the grading fee from board members (including 1975 and 1976 PSA 8s at $0.99 plus shipping). image

Nick> I saw the 72 Mota and it's a card I need. I passed because I didn't like the centering. Had I known it'd go for only $3.25 I'd have picked it up and marked it for upgrading. Nice pickup.

mike - I was wondering why you didn't grab it.
I'm in L.A., where Mota sells at a premium, so I jumped on this one. A number of his high-grade cards are locked away in Dodger collectors' personal collections that are not on the registry, so I expect he is a tougher pickup than the pop. report would indicate.

Nick> I wouldn't call his 72 card scarce, but would agree it's tougher than population would indicate.

  • One of the first 1969 cards I picked up when I started to put my graded set together was a PSA 8 Carl Yastrzemski. Centering was not nearly as important pre-PSA and I had no idea how difficult some of the 1969 cards were to find with decent centering. I needed the Yaz and the BIN of $100 was lower than I had seen the card close for a few weeks earlier. At the time, I thought I was crazy because the high Beckett was about $20 but yesterday a PSA 8 sold for over $300 so now I consider it the best bargain I have gotten on a graded card.

here is the perfect example of why you should be careful with your titles. this title does not get picked up in most searches. I couldn't even find it myself after i bought it. always list the full year unless you want to give your cards away!
1969pack .....and the greatest part of this , when I got my pack, wilt chamberlain# 1 is clearly visable on the back
there must be something in the water this week, this pack 1973 pack has the ruth/aaron/mays #1 card clearly visable on the backimage
  • I just picked up a bargin for my set:

    Baseball Vintage site

This is a $45-$50 cad on ebay.
  • This one is my best bargain of the past year -- $40. This is one of the toughest card in the '68 set...last time I looked, there was only one PSA-9 (comfortably put away in Stump's set) and one SGC-96. The card was listed incorrectly on eBAY and drew very few bids.

Here is a better scan of the Wilt:

Even if it gets a low grade, it's going to look great in a PSA/DNA holder.

I recently picked up a PSA 5 Cope's golfer from 1900 for $51. A group of 14 lower condition cards (likely psa1-3 range) just sold for about $45 a card. Not your mainstrem baseball or football issue, but still a PSA 5 from this set at that price is a relative "steal"
