Baley, that cleaned and re-toned Benson I posted earlier they slabbed. Even the owner said if it were you or me it would have got bagged. At a small show recently I saw a bunch of Capped Bust halves that had the look of the one you just posted in slabs.

I can see a "Little" slack for these old classics, but clearly they are giving too much. This is basically market grading which I don't agree with. If they are gonna bag a Morgan for cleaning, then I say bag them all for cleaning. Which in retrospect, if they bagged all Bust material for cleaning..... there wouldn't be much to grade as most have had a "Warshimage" at the very least. Soooo that would just show the true rarity of original and perhaps people would get the idea (I doubt it though) and keep their grimy mitts off the coins and quit trying to fix them. Do I need to continue?

PCGS slabs cleaned coins all the time but they are usually net graded down a couple of points. I bought a common date $5 liberty a few weeks ago in MS64 that was blatantly scrubbed- I had it packaged and on it's way back to the seller in about 15 minutes. You ever see someone with a coin graded MS60-62 and it had the look of a 63+? most likely it's in the lower graded holder because of light cleaning but the owner of the coin thinks it is PQ and a lock for an upgrade. mike image

so what would this rare beauty grade if not net graded and just considered it was warshed/dipped.

I've seen other early-date cleaned coins slabbed. Also, pedigreed coins. I have a key date Eliasberg Seated Dime. It's clearly an XF-40 cleaned, graded as a VF-25 by PCGS.

they won't slab cleaned barbers or SLQ atleast for me. I guess its who you know cause I seen a lot of barbers that have been cleaned in pcgs holder but mine come back in the flip with the cleaned sticker on them.

I think it really depends how bad the cleaning is. Start looking at MS60-62 PCGS coins and I think you will start to notice what is acceptable. mike
