a different question about submitting autographed cards to psa.

what do you do if you have a card that is already signed and already authenticated by psa/dna (example card) ? do I still have to submit through the 20 dollar psa/dna service or can I just send it (with my coa from psa/dna) directly to psa for regular grading?

I think you still have to pony up the full $20, since the LOA from Spence & Co is a generic "Auction house" letter. Let me know if you find out to the contrary, as I have a bunch of autographed cards that I picked up directly from Rotmans that I'd love to send in and aviod the extra charge.

  • From the PSA/DNA website:

    CARD GRADING
If you would like to submit your autographed sportscard for grading once it has been PSA/DNA authenticated, please enclose a PSA submission form. If the autograph is deemed non-authentic, the submission will be returned to you and the sportscard is not eligible for grading.

I don't see why you couldn't cut out the middle man (PSA/DNA) and submit the card (along with the PSA/DNA certification letter) on it's own to PSA for grading since it appears that's all they do anyway.

    JEB.

  • ok, so what is the difference between a "certificate of authenticity" and a "letter of authenticity"? seems like if psa/dna says it is "authentic" then it is ok for psa to grade, so why would there be a difference between types of authenticity? it is either authentic or not, right?
  • Isn't it rather interesting that some of the most EXPENSIVE autographed items - those in these major auctions, only come with generic "auction house" LOAs?

You CAN'T submitt the card. The PSADNA auction house letter is worthless to PSA. Pretty stupid isnt it? You can list it and get a premium because it has a PSA/DNA COA anywere but dont send it to PSA....?????. I contacted PETER MA over this email all the documents and pictures and he said no. You have to send it back to Spence to look at it again, pay him again,( isnt he 100% sure the 1st time or is it $$$$) and then send it back to psa. I was pissed when I heard that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the PSA/Dna cert doesnt have any DNA marker on it. I guess PSA/DNA is a sloggan only. (for auction house items)

so do the cards that are sent to be graded at psa, via psa/dna, have a dna marker on them? I have seen no sign that they do. they do not even come with a coa or loa, just the number on the flip, right?

  • I currently know nothing about this topic, but I'm very interested to learn more. I plan to start collecting some PSA/DNA autographed cards in the future.

It seems that even those of you who are already into this, don't know the answers. Why doesn't PSA/DNA make this information available or at least outline possible scenarios such as this?

Please post any feedback on this if you receive an answer.

    Thanks.

    It is simple.
I've posted it before and I will again

IF THE CARD HAS A PSA/DNA STICKER ON THE CARD YOU CAN SEND IT STRAIGHT TO CALIFORNIA!

If the sticker is on the COA or if the card came with a generic COA that covered an auction lot that had many cards, then you must give PSA/DNA another $20. This is not such a bad deal. When I started collecting HOF autographs (long before the set registry) The PSA/DNA fee was $50 plus PSA's grading fee.

Just factor the cost into your bid.

JEB - That website info you pasted from the DNA site has not been updated since the $20 Grading Special. That is how it used to be done to avoid putting the sticker on the card yet still having the card slabbed. When mailing the auto to Spence (2) submission forms were included (1) for Spence who then mailed the card directly to PSA for grading (with sticker on COA).

If you want the notarized COA with color picture of your card you can still go this route.
If you want to pay $20 the slab is your COA.

    Any Questions?
