what do you think of this toner

Do you believe the colors are brighter than the picture, I think they must be to get the star designation

It is mounted reverse forward. That coin sort of looks familiar. I think I agree with the other comments, the price is image

Has to be shilling going on. No other explanation is reasonably possible. NGC decided the reverse was the best side and most experienced color buyers know that partial rainbows fetch only a modest premium (say, $125 tops for a 65 common).

    Doug,

Did you miss the obverse? I'm not surprised this one has bid to over $2500. Similar have sold in Goldberg auctions in that neighborhood.

Maybe the reserve is what you are seeing.

    Russ,

Yes, I saw it but the pics do not show me much more than a common toner. Perhaps in person this coin is monstrous...could some of these bids come from folks with coin in hand (vs. internet proxy?)

As I said, NGC chose to put the reverse up, which means it is visually nicer than the reverse, which is really rather common. If the obverse was sharper, they would have put it up, regardless of a customer's request. That has been my experience with them.

Of course, I am still a relative newbie and I could be wrong!

    Doug,

I see what you're saying. If NGC picked the reverse, it would be better than the obverse. I was a little slow on the uptake on that one.

Knowing Heritage's imaging skills, (or lack of them), my guess is that the coin is far more vibrant and colorful in reality than as pictured. May be shills, but it also may be bidders who've seen the coin in person.

Here's one from the Goldberg auction that went for $1900 plus juice. It's a MS66* with a Binion pedigree.

And this is the one being spoken of here and is at $2250 plus juice. It's a MS65*

If the images are even close I would take the Goldberg coin anyday. image

I agree if the images are right on, if you enlarge the pics on the ms65 they show more color. I believe it is much better than pics, having said that I'm still out.

Here's one from a Goldberg auction that brought $4965:

It's the same same grade at the Heritage coin. PCGS, though, so it doesn't have a star.

We part time sellers and full time dealers need to find out the names of the current bidders on this 65* and retire REALLY soon!

    stman,

Seriously, if it isn't a photo glitch, I REALLY like the little Rainbow halo just above Liberty's head! Too cool! (If it is real, PM me and I will start you on your way to financial indepence...or at least pay you a bit more than you bought it for!)

See I knew if I spammed it they would come running.image LOL, Doug thanks but I scanned it and if I remember correctly it was from a print the area you like, hence I believe it's a bit mottled in that area.

    Hey!

I owned that 66* Binion for a little while.

I believe the $2250 we see on the Heritage site is the reserve for the 80s. If it sells then please take a look at my stuff which I am sure will blow that one away (and much cheaper too). image

Hey Doug, correction, that halo effect WAS a image glitch. The plastic from the 2x2 was crimped a bit and made a flash in that area. The print lines were up higher. So we'll start in what the 500.00 range?image

The colors are pretty but the overall look doesn't do much for me.

Wow... Barney should have waited just a little bit longer.
Can you imagine the number if GSAguy put up one of his big guns for auction these days.
