1970 Topps sellers-beware

This is an update to a message I posted about 10 days ago. The buyer "missabay", who also goes by an aol address and has the #4 1970 Topps baseball set on the registry, has reneged on a winning EBay bid. Despite two messages to the address listed on the registry and several unsuccessful attempts to deliver winning bidder notices to the address he uses on EBay, he has yet to send payment or even contact me. His feedback is generally positive, but unfortunately, it's not the first time he's opted not to pay for a card. Back in June, two other sellers left negative feedback for non-payment. Some of you have apparently dealt with him in the past (I believe he may have even purchased some cards from me), but since he has chosen not to answer e-mails, I can only assume he feels he overpaid for this card and has decided not to follow through. The auction closed 10/16 and the e-mail address he uses on EBay is not functioning as mail comes back "undeliverable".

  • Here is his email address again:

His name is John DiCicco and, like I said before, I never had a problem selling to him.

If I remember correctly, he never responded to any emails from me. Maybe his check got lost in the mail and he now realizes this and has sent another one. I am surprised that he wouldn't email you at this point, though.

You used to be able to get a user's name, address, and phone # from ebay if you were currently involved in a transaction with him - I'm not sure if this feature is still available. If it is, you may try this and call him on the phone.

  • Bought from me plenty of times. Never a problem. I doubt as to whether this was intentional.

  • Ripkin...have you emailed him through his username? They always get through. If that returns undeliverable, I would assume he has a pc or connection problem. Maybe a system crash. Others have mentioned the fact, he is slow paying. I would give the situation another week or so. I'm not you and my time frame Isn't the same as yours, but I do understand how frustrating this can be. It's happened to most of us.

Have you droped a neg. on him?

I have attempted to contact him through his user ID ("question for seller"), and through the AOL address listed here on the registry. AOL affords the opportunity to check the status of a 'sent' e-mail. He's deleted each of the e-mails I've sent him in the last 2 weeks without replying to me. I understand problems occasionally exist with computers, etc, but if I have no communication from him whatsoever--and he's still bidding on other seller's items -- I'm left with little choice to believe he's a non-payer...at least for this item.

I've sold to him a dozen times with no problem. Either way my opinion is this isnt the forum for this issue.

Although he has never bid on any of my auctions, he nonetheless has failed to ever pay me for any of them. You can draw your own conclusions.
  • I've never gotten money from him either...what am I missing?
  • I delt with him one time selling him two 1970 topps PSA 8's. Only after i filed a NPB with eBay did i get an email from him saying the payment was on the way...........and i got it two weeks later! It took me about 30 days to receive payment from him for $18 worth of cards.

    Well...

If you haven't already hit him with a Payment Reminder through eBay's system - you should do it. If you have, then at the 10 day mark hit him with the Non-Paying bidder warning. If he STILL chooses not to pay up - you'll be able to get your fees back AND get him closer to being suspended from eBay.

Yes - a very laborious process - but its the eBay way - try to work within it. And hey! If you're lucky - he already has a few NPD's against him and yours might be enough for the suspension!

I hate to see it work out this way for anyone on the registry forum. But, it doesn't sound like he's left you many options. Good luck.

Frank, states the proper way to deal with Ebay NPB's. I still feel the Registry is the wrong forum. If it isnt, then all we'll be seeing is NPB complaints. I could place 10 a month. I'm sure the larger sellers could place many many more.

    Frank, etc...
Yes, I've followed the EBay procedures including the reminder and non-paying bidder alert. I have not left feedback for him.

    Gaspipe..
My only reason for posting this is to let others know there's an actively unreliable trader/buyer out there. I offered only facts and slung no unsubstantiated mud. From the more recent replies, it looks like my experience is not an isolated one. I thought these boards were supposed to be a service to us all?

    Ripken,
Its still an Ebay issue and not a registry issue. I'm stating my opinion that it should be kept on Ebay not here. Like I said, should I start listing all the people who have stiffed me? Or should dslsports?, or anyone for that matter. For everyone that has done that to me there's probrably over 100 who could say they had no problem with the buyer. If you've filled out your NPB, and your 10 days goes by, leave your negative and move on with relisting. Its happened to me more than I would like to think. Again thats my opinion.
