Nova Scotia Halfpenny

I love this coin. It looks great, (mint state to me) and it kind of makes me think of the Arkansas quarter.

Question: Who's the guy (looks like the maytag repairman) and what in the heck is that thing on the other side?
Please tell me more about it.

Comments

  • The guy is William IV, king of Great Britain and the British Empire.
The Scottish Thistle is on the reverse, the Thistle is the symbol of Scotland and hence is also a symbol of Nova Scotia (New Scotland).
  • That nice copper piece is listed as KM-1 with a mintage of 800,000. I'd say it's about VF-XF and my '96 Krause catalog lists the value as $7.50-$12.50.

Nice looking token. The variety appears to be Charlton NS-1D2, long right ribbon. Looks to be VF and catalogues for $15 Canadian.
