    Well, in his own curt way, darktone was correct. A chopmark is generally a character or symbol punched into a coin that circulated in the orient. They are usually characters from asian languages in their native script (kanji?). They were intended to validate the weight and purity of large size silver coins (usually). The numeral two on your barber quarter doesn't seem to serve any official purpose. Most likely it was as he said, someone with some numeral punches with a lot of time on their hands. Possibly a die/punch maker testing his product?
