my 1987 quarter

while on my rant of quarters. i have a 1987P i blieve it is. that seems to be turning colors from the middle out. which seems strange . it started with a small circle now it has taken up most of the coin all of the eagle all the way out to the words. so the words "united states of amercia" and "quarterdollar" look like they are normal metal quarter color. but moving to the middle look purple and strange. not all purple looks to be blue a little what is the deal . i know it isnt a proof coin not a silver proof. the other side is normal. was there a die error that im missing? also similar thing on my 1998 i got theres a whole band of top coat of whatever goes on coins missing. its all shinny but this one area where its dull. its not dirt or worn just definatly a different shade of metal. any insight
