She wore blue velvet, Bluer than velvet was the night . . .

Softer than satin was the light
From the stars

She wore blue velvet
Bluer than velvet were her eyes
Warmer than May her tender sighs
Love was ours

Ours a love I held tightly
Feeling the rapture grow
Like a flame burning brightly
But when she left,
Gone was the glow of

Blue velvet
But in my heart
There'll always be
Precious and warm,
A memory
Through the years
And I still can see
Blue velvet
Through my tears. image

Doesn't Spinaker like blue??

Why isn't the field area around the lettering toned?

Probably a similar phenomena to many US large cents I've seen which tone down first right up to the 13 stars on the border. It's almost always an original fiery red up against the peripheral devices.

Anyway, this halfpenny is my copper centerpiece as it were, from the Christies sale in 1984 of the Freeman Collection. Likely, the only one I'll ever have but nice enough for a wee, poor mousie.

It was described as a Proof or PL Specimen, and is most likely only a Specimen striking. It really is blue with that cherry red at the peripheries, very iridescent; something the camera just can't capture, but hey, I'll keep trying from time to time. image

That's the only "Blue" copper I have. image
