1883 Hawaiian Dollar, does anybody know anything about them???

I just obtained a really nice looking 1883 Hawaiian Dollar (dala) from an elderly gentleman who kept it stashed in a jewelry box for years and said it was given to him by his grandfather but just taking up space now. I have know idea what it is worth and am also very interested to know the history behind it and any other Hawaiian coinage from that time. Can anybody help? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanksimage

Hawaiian coinage was struck at the San Francisco mint in 1883. We struck dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars. There were46,348 silver dollars struck. Today there are rarte in all grades. A circulated example is worth between $300 and $1,500 and Mint State examples are worth a lot more. It is definitely a coin that you should have graded by PCGS. Call our customer service department and they can help you.
