Is this a rip off?

I have not posted in a long while but have been lurking and working on my set, "Who's a Bum?" 1948-1957 A Decade of Brooklyn Dodgers Team Card Set. Soon I will post my trial and tribulations, but first a question for those knowledgeable.

Is $239.00 to much for a 1954 NY Journal American Jackie Robinson PSA 6? The Standard Catalog has it at $200 in NM. It is a tough card, I need it for my set, but I do not have a lot of money to throw around. And for me, this is a lot. My instinct says to get it now while I can and pay the extra to do so. What do you guys think?

If you dont remember me look up my old thread and you'll see how broke, but passionate, I am.

Thanks for your time,

Benjamin.

To me it sounds within range. The standard catalog seems off by a bit when dealing with graded cards, and this is not a issue that comes up very often. I suspect if you pass it will be some time before you see one again, especially in this grade, due to the fragility of the paper.
BTW, the link to the image doesn't work on my browser.

  • Sorry, I couldn't process any sense out of your question, I kept looking at that freaky looking thing you got there.

What in God's name is that?

There are only 55 total cards graded for the set of 22 cards! (18 of the 55 are Mantles) Jackie has 6 -- 2 PSA 6's, 1 PSA 7 and 3 PSA 8's. If you want it, then I say get it now. It doesn't look like a highly trafficked card.
  • Griffins and Vargha: thanks for the quick advice and after your comments, I'm going for it.

interchanges: "that freaky looking thing" is the best rendition of O'Malley's conscience I could find in the Collectors Universe image database.

Again, thanks for your time guys.

  • If you can't identify that "that freaky looking thing", you haven't seen Lord of the Rings. I believe that there is an Academy Award nomination posibly coming. Read the books, see the movies. the characters name is Gollum.
